Enhancing the ever growing tourism sector work force

The World University Services of Canada (WUSC) together with Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) in their attempt to change the landscape of the island’s tourism industry was keen in bringing in the expertise of Headway Learning Solutions (HLS) to overcome one of the biggest hurdles in the industry, lack of sufficient English language skills.

HLS, the Authorized Sri Lankan Channel Partner for DynEd International Inc. USA, offers an array of industry specified computer based English Language courses that are personalized and catered to the specific needs at hand using modern technology.

During the project, all three stakeholders will work in unison in order to equip the next generation with the language skills needed – especially in the spoken component. The common goal is to enhance the ever growing tourism sector work force.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Mr. Denzil Fernando (Manager Skills for Employment, WUSC) and Mr. Naaren Moharanjithan (CEO, Headway Learning Solutions) graced by Mrs. Esther McIntosh (Country Director, WUSC Sri Lanka); to train hotel schools students in Hospitality English focusing on building confidence in Spoken English. Mr.Denzil Fernando said,  kick starting the project at the SLITHM training center in Koggalla, WUSC is looking forward to expand the program to other districts as well. This venture signifies the dawn of a new era in Hospitality Management and Vocational Training in Sri Lanka.
